Getting started
Do I need an account?
No. Tamsi works fully without an account, and your journal stays on your phone. Signing in is only for cloud backups, and you can do it any time from the You tab.
Are there ads, trackers or AI?
No ads, no analytics or tracking tools, and no AI reading your entries. The details are in the Privacy Policy.
Why is it called Tamsi now?
Tamsi is the new name for Last Journal, from version 2.7.1. Tamsi means sunbird, a small, bright bird found across the Philippines. Nothing about your journal changes: same app, same entries, same backups, same subscription. You don't need to do anything.
Backups
How do backups work?
Sign in, then open You → All settings → Data Backup Management and make a backup. Your journal and photos are encrypted on your phone before they're uploaded.
- Free: manual backups; the newest 5 are kept.
- Premium: manual backups plus a daily automatic backup; the newest 25 manual and 15 automatic are kept.
When a new backup goes over its limit, the oldest one of that kind is removed.
Are my backups encrypted?
Yes. Backups and photos are encrypted on your phone before they are uploaded, and stored only in encrypted form. We don't look at their contents.
By default the encryption key is protected by your account, so backups work with nothing extra to remember. For even stronger encryption, add a backup password.
What is the backup password?
An optional password that protects your backups' encryption key instead of your account. It gives even stronger encryption.
Keep it safe. We can't recover or reset it for you. If you forget it, the only way forward is Reset Encryption, which permanently makes every backup protected by the old password unreadable. The entries on your phone aren't affected and can be backed up again.
I signed in and my backups are missing
Check that you signed in the same way as before. Signing in with Google and signing in with an email and password can create two separate accounts with separate backups, even for the same email address.
If backups still don't show, check your connection: a failed load doesn't mean they're gone. Then email us.
Photos
How much photo space do I get?
Photo backup space is 15 MB on Free and 1 GB with Premium. Journal text doesn't count against it, and photos on your phone aren't limited.
When the space is full, new photos stay on your phone but aren't backed up until you free up space or upgrade. The app shows which photos aren't backed up.
What happens to my photos' location data?
Photos you add are resized and re-saved on your phone, which removes location and camera details (such as GPS coordinates) from the copy Tamsi keeps. The original in your gallery isn't changed or uploaded.
Premium
How do I cancel?
In the Google Play Store app: Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Tamsi → Cancel. Nothing is deleted when a subscription ends: backups and photos already in the cloud stay there and can still be restored. See the Terms of Use for the details.
Moving and leaving
How do I move to a new phone?
- On your old phone, make a fresh backup in You → All settings → Data Backup Management.
- On your new phone, install Tamsi and sign in the same way you did before (Google, or email and password).
- Choose Restore when asked, or later from Data Backup Management.
- If you set a backup password, you'll need it to restore.
Without an account, you can also export a portable ZIP (You → All settings → Export Entries) and import it on the new phone. That file isn't encrypted, so keep it somewhere safe.
Can I take my journal elsewhere?
Yes. Export as RTF, as a portable ZIP (readable Markdown, JSON data and your photos), or as PDF with Premium. You can also import from Day One, Obsidian or Markdown files.
How do I delete my account?
In the app: You → All settings → Account Management. It permanently deletes your backups, photos and encryption keys in the cloud, and then the account. The journal on your phone isn't touched.
No longer have the app? See Delete your account for how to ask us by email.
